The AGe of exploration
Ahoy, me matey, are ye bored with your everyday life? Is Europe becoming to crowded for ye? Are ye looking for adventures, new lands, trade routes, infidels to convert, silks, spices, fame and fortune??? I have just the job for ye! Ye have been summoned to pick a crew to head to the New World to discover glories and fame! Climb aboard your ship and get ready for a great adventure!
You will first need to pick your explorer:
•John Cabot
•Henry Hudson
•Jacques Cartier
•Samuel de Champlain
•Samuel Hearne
•George Vancouver
•St. Alexander Mackenzie
•Christopher Columbus
Your task is to investigate the a European or Canadian explorer, their ships, and the areas they explored in the New World (North America). You will create a Google Presentation on your drive to share with your homebase classroom.
It needs to include:
•details about your explorer's life
•what was eventually discovered when land was finally reached
•the names of their ships
•a map of the area discovered
•historical contributions
In order to create your logbook you will need to do some investigating. Here is a list of the tasks you need to accomplish:
1. A picture of your explorer
2. Chronological Text Structure using a timeline of your life and voyage from birth to death
3. A written description and picture of your transportation
4. A map of the area you explored (can be drawn or taken from internet)
5. A description of the area you discovered
8. Any interesting facts you discovered along the way
The following questions can help guide your research:
- Where did they travel to?
- What would they see on land?
- What kinds of experiences might they have exploring the new lands?
